SUMMARY:University of Oxford 8th Course on Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in systematic reviews and meta-analyses of RCTs & observational studies? Join our online course! It is open to anyone interested in evidence synthesis and evidence-based practice\, specificially designed for psychiatrists\, psychologists\, mental health professionals\, mental health pharmacists\, and neuroscientists. Features include an engaging program of lectures\, practical sessions & group discussions. \nThis is a virtual course\, and during practical sessions it is easier (though not required) if you have access to two screens. \nTopics covered include: Protocol\, search strategy\, basic concepts on statistical analysis of RCTs\, study selection\, risk of bias & GRADE\, reporting of results (PRISMA guidelines)\, performing a meta-analysis (theory and practice with R)\, paper submission\, and some aspects of practical project presentation. \nLast booking date for this event: 31 January 2025 \nFor more information and booking\, visit the Oxford University Stores webpage.

SUMMARY:Translation 2025
DESCRIPTION:TRANSLATION 2025 is a two-day conference bringing together leading researchers to discuss the latest discoveries and innovations in dementia research. \nRecent new drugs impacting dementia’s progression\, new drives in data research\, biomarker studies\, international collaborations\, a growing infrastructure\, effective trials delivery capacity are all important elements for translational research. So too\, is experimental research as we seek to find new disease-modifying treatments for dementia. \n250 delegates\, from academia\, industry and the third sector will be attending at The Congress Centre in London who are hosting us for the second time. \nIn addition to the main session during our busy 2-day conference\, we are holding an Early Career Researcher morning which has proved extremely popular for those in the earlier stages of research in this field. \nThe conference will be at The Congress Centre\, Great Russell Street\, London on 13-14th March 2025. \nBook online before 14.02.25

SUMMARY:Pioneering Approaches in Experimental and Translational Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Two-day\, in-person course \nThursday 13 March (10:00 – 17:30) and Friday 14 March (9:30 – 16:30) 2025 \n Book your place – priority booking for NIHR Maudsley BRC\, King’s and South London and Maudsley until 29 January 2025 \n There is an urgent need for new interventions for psychiatric and neurological conditions. Experimental medicine studies and early-phase trials are important in providing mechanistic information\, optimising and de-risking therapeutic development before proceeding to later stage clinical trials. \nThis two-day\, in-person course aims to inspire and prepare researchers embarking on careers in translational and experimental medicine approaches to psychiatric and neurological conditions. \nIt is hosted by the Experimental Medicine and Novel Therapeutics Theme of the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre. \nAbout the course\nThe course will introduce pioneering approaches across research methods\, including neuroimaging\, psychopharmacology\, digital therapeutics\, sleep\, neuromodulation and machine learning/AI\, whilst covering a range of practical essentials – from how to ensure that your study design is feasible\, incorporate participant and patient perspectives\, embed reproducibility and open science\, and foster industry partnerships. In short\, the course will highlight the skills you need to succeed and provide guidance on how to develop them. \nIt will feature inspiring talks and case studies\, panel discussions with Q&As and networking opportunities\, and will be delivered by guest speakers from the NIHR Maudsley BRC\, university researchers\, clinical professionals\, industry experts and research participants who have direct experience of taking part in translational and experimental medicine studies. \nProgramme Highlights: www.kcl.ac.uk/events/nihr-maudsley-brc-pioneering-approaches-in-experimental-and-translational-medicine-a-two-day-course \nWho is this course aimed at? \nThe event is tailored to those at early career stages\, including PhD students\, research assistants and early postdocs\, looking to enhance their knowledge and abilities in conducting translational research. \nTickets for this course are £40\, which should be recoverable through bench fees/studentship conference funds for eligible students. For King’s students and staff with no other means\, a small number of subsidised places have been reserved. Please contact maudsley.brc@kcl.ac.uk if this applies to you and you would like to attend. \nFor more information\, please contact maudsley.brc@kcl.ac.uk

SUMMARY:Research Governance for PIs and Delivery Teams
DESCRIPTION:In addition to carrying out the protocol-driven activities of the research studies in which they participate. Principal Investigators and their delivery teams must ensure that the studies are managed as required and that all the governance requirements are fulfilled. The course has been designed to give an overview of the governance and management requirements throughout the life cycle of a research study within the NHS/HSC across all the four nations in the UK. \nDuring this interactive study day\, we’ll go through different aspects of study set-up including research funding\, regulatory approvals\, logistics\, safety reporting and local study management. It will also talk about roles and responsibilities of Principal Investigators and study delivery teams in different phases of study management. \nWho is the Course for? \nThis course has been focused on the role of Principal Investigators and study delivery teams within the NHS/HSC organisations in managing a research project.
