SUMMARY:Webinar: Beyond the bump – How managing blood pressure around pregnancy shapes your future health
DESCRIPTION:The NIHR BRC: Oxford is holding a free online public talk on Tuesday 21 July at 2pm \nMany women experience high blood pressure during pregnancy\, and it is increasingly recognised as an early warning sign for health problems later in life. Conditions such as gestational hypertension and preeclampsia are known to increase a woman’s longer-term risk of stroke\, heart disease and dementia. Yet most women receive little follow-up once their baby is born. \nRecent studies by University of Oxford researchers have shown that\, by monitoring and carefully managing their blood pressure after giving birth\, new mothers could cut their risk of future heart disease and strokes – and protect their long‑term brain health. \nThe studies\, supported by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Oxford\, have led to the creation of a postpartum cardiac risk clinic in the Oxford Heart Centre. \nThis talk will explore how pregnancy is a window into future health\, giving an opportunity to improve long-term care and help prevent future cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline in women. SUMMARY:Our Future Health mobile clinics (South Oxford)
DESCRIPTION:The Our Future Health programme aims to help people live healthier lives for longer through the discovery and testing of more effective approaches to prevention\, earlier detection and treatment of diseases. We are aiming to recruit up to 5 million adults who truly reflect the UK population. We launched recruitment in 2022 and are delighted to share that we now have over 2 million volunteers signed up so far. We’re continuing to roll out our appointment venues more widely and are keen to work with you to ensure the people of Oxford are well represented in the programme. \nVolunteers give their consent to join the research programme and provide secure access to their health records\, complete a questionnaire\, and attend an appointment to provide a blood sample and have some physical measurements taken. They are also offered information about their own health\, including their blood pressure and heart rate. More information about what’s involved is available here. \nThese Oxford clinics are part of our continued expansion\, joining existing Our Future Health appointment venues\, selected Boots stores and NHS Blood and Transplant locations across the UK in welcoming more people to take part.

At the same time\, the UK is experiencing an unparalleled surge in people seeking mental health support\, with lengthy waitlists and significant inequalities in access to services. \nOur public event asks: What kinds of expertise should we trust to identify\, support and treat mental health needs? Speakers will address some difficult challenges: Is traditional medical expertise still relevant in an age of self-diagnosis through social media? How should other forms of expertise\, e.g. AI chatbots and lived experience\, figure in how we design future mental health support and policy? DESCRIPTION:This course is aimed at those who deliver research in a healthcare setting either in a Sponsor team or as a Host\, and that maybe subject to regulatory inspection. Preparation for Inspection is critical but compliance driven from preparation rather than from quality systems can lead to poor practice and Inspection findings. \nLast minute changes just prior to a visit can be very unhelpful and in some cases misleading and so this course will help delegates understand how to become inspection-ready for any inspection. Delegates will learn strategies that build confidence for an inspection from any of the regulators for example the MHRA\, Human Tissue Authority or Human Embryology & Fertilisation Authority. \nUpon successful completion of the course\, participants should be able to: \n\nExplain the types of inspections\, their purpose and jurisdiction that an active research organisation may experience\nDevelop an action plan to prepare for Inspection\nDevelop a strategy to assure compliance to legislation\nHave some knowledge of previous inspection findings\n\nGain an understanding of corrective actions and preventative actions \nMore information and registration.

SUMMARY:Our Future Health mobile clinics (North Oxford)
DESCRIPTION:The Our Future Health programme aims to help people live healthier lives for longer through the discovery and testing of more effective approaches to prevention\, earlier detection and treatment of diseases. We are aiming to recruit up to 5 million adults who truly reflect the UK population. We launched recruitment in 2022 and are delighted to share that we now have over 2 million volunteers signed up so far. We’re continuing to roll out our appointment venues more widely and are keen to work with you to ensure the people of Oxford are well represented in the programme. \nVolunteers give their consent to join the research programme and provide secure access to their health records\, complete a questionnaire\, and attend an appointment to provide a blood sample and have some physical measurements taken. They are also offered information about their own health\, including their blood pressure and heart rate. More information about what’s involved is available here. \nThese Oxford clinics are part of our continued expansion\, joining existing Our Future Health appointment venues\, selected Boots stores and NHS Blood and Transplant locations across the UK in welcoming more people to take part.

DESCRIPTION:  \nRecent research shows that 80% of professionals will experience ‘imposter phenomenon’\, often referred to as ‘imposter syndrome’\, at some point in their careers. Whilst it is prevalent\, this doesn’t stop it from being debilitating and disempowering as it can be associated with decreased job performance or burnout (Bravata et al 2020). \nThis workshop explores practical tips for managing imposter phenomenon\, from both an individual and systemic lens. \nIn this 3-hour virtual workshop you will: \n\nappreciate the often systemic nature of imposter phenomenon by understanding what in the system or culture is (possibly inadvertently) causing you to feel like an imposter. Which elements of this can you choose to minimise\, challenge or reframe?\nclarify your typical trigger situations\, trying out practical tools to help you challenge your negative self-talk and bring your strengths to bear in these situations\nengage in peer coaching with other delegates using solution-focused questions\, giving you the opportunity to form supportive networks and cultivate a new mindset around imposter phenomenon

DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce a series of interactive workshops aimed at operational and strategic leadership in social care (both adult and children) in partnership with colleagues at ADASS. Practitioner-led research in social care is a priority for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)\, which offers a range of development opportunities to help practitioners build their skills and knowledge. However\, as many of us know\, social care practitioners apply for these opportunities less frequently than health practitioners.\n\n\nThis series of interactive workshops are aimed at operational and strategic leadership in social care across statutory\, voluntary and independent sector providers. It will draw on perspectives from across the sector to explore the organisational benefits of developing a research-minded and capable workforce\, provide guidance and information about the funding and support available from the NIHR Academy and the Research Support Service\, and explore effective strategies for and barriers to involvement across regions.
