Oxford Health Director of Research and Development discusses READ-OUT with BBC South

Recently, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT) Director of Research and Development, Professor Vanessa Raymont featured on the BBC discussing the new READ-OUT dementia study, which opens at the Trust this month.

The READ-OUT study is a national multi-site study in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Research UK, Alzheimer Society, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Gates Ventures

Around 3,000 participants nationally over the age of 45 with cognitive problems or other symptoms of memory disorders will be recruited for the initial observational study that will look at a wide panel of blood biomarkers used to diagnose dementia and select the best blood markers to use in clinical diagnosis.

800 participants will then be recruited nationally following the observational study in a following trial that will assess the impact and benefit of using those tests. The study aims to consciously recruit people from under-represented groups, including those who haven’t engaged with a memory clinic previously.

Filming took place at the Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility (OH CRF) and the Oxford Brain Health Clinic at the Warneford Hospital site, and featured a patient from the OHFT Memory Clinic to illustrate why improving access to an early diagnosis will help patients like him.
