Keeping participants informed about research progress and outcomes is increasingly recognised as an important part of good research practice.
Recent findings from the NIHR Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES) highlighted that many participants are unsure how to access study results, while others would like more updates throughout the course of a study. The Health Research Authority (HRA) has also strengthened its focus on improving the sharing of research findings with participants.
To support researchers and participants, Oxford Health Research & Development has developed a co-produced “What’s Next After Taking Part in Research?” leaflet. Supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), the leaflet provides information about what happens after research participation ends, where to find study results, and sources of ongoing support. An easy read version is also available, helping to ensure the information is accessible to a wider audience.
The leaflet is available to download as a PDF and can be used by researchers to support conversations with participants as they complete their involvement in research.
