NIHR Clinical Research Facility: Oxford Health (CRF: Oxford Health) recently welcomed two A-Level students as part of an In2ScienceUK work placement.
In2ScienceUK offers young people an insight into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers in a bid to provide students the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to excel in the sector.
Programmes run through In2Science leverage the skills, expertise, and passion of STEM professionals and researchers by offering work placements, skills sessions, career workshops and more.
Students Meerab and Juljia took part in a range of activities, facilitated by our colleagues.
They were shown how to record baseline measurements, including blood pressure and temperature checks, which are taken before a participant takes part in a study.
They were also shown around the CRF’s laboratory, learning how to process and safely store samples taken during the research process.
The students were also invited to a group session with our colleagues, where they discussed career pathways, and reviewed example CVs.
Reflecting on her placement, Meerab said: “’I had an incredible time at the CRF during my placement. I was especially amazed by the staff’s collective sense of community. They were kind and respectful, not just among themselves, but towards everyone that came to the Facility.”

“It was a pleasure to introduce Meerab and Julija to our research, share insights into the work we do, and help them gain valuable experience that will support their future studies and career development.
“The students were inquisitive, enthusiastic and eager to learn, making it a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
“Their thoughtful questions and genuine curiosity were a reminder of how important and exciting our work is. Seeing research through their eyes highlighted the impact of creating opportunities for young people to explore careers in science and health research, and I hope the placement has inspired them to pursue their ambitions with confidence.”
