The NIHR Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility (OH CRF) has launched a new video to help people understand what to expect when attending a clinical research visit.
The video provides a guided walkthrough of the facility, including the waiting areas, clinic rooms and garden, and follows the journey of a typical research visit from arrival through to departure. It features real members of the OH CRF team and shows the types of activities that may take place during a research appointment, as well as some of the equipment that participants might come across during their visit.
The video has been developed with accessibility in mind, giving people the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the environment before attending a visit. It is intended to help reduce uncertainty, support people with additional needs, and reassure anyone who may feel anxious about taking part in clinical research.
As well as supporting participants and their supporters, the video also aims to demystify clinical research for the wider public by showing what a research visit can look like in practice.
Amanda Colston, CRF Matron, explained the reasons for making the video: “Taking part in research can feel scary if you don’t know what to expect. This video shows each step clearly, and introduces some of the CRF Team that participants will meet, so people can feel more prepared, more comfortable, and more in control when they visit us.”
The video can be viewed below, and is available on YouTube and through our website alongside our AccessAble guide.
