Oxford Health R&D staff talk about studies at Dementia Oxfordshire event

Oxford Health R&D staff talk about studies at Dementia Oxfordshire event

Research staff at Oxford Health recently attended the Autumn Information Fayre at the Windmill Centre in Deddington to provide information on dementia and opportunities to take part in dementia research.

Clinical Research Facilitators Zoe Collett and Ariana Cortez from the Oxford Health Memory and Cognition research delivery team along with Research Assistant Shun-Yan Toto To from the Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility (OH CRF) attended on the day and remarked that the event was a good opportunity to engage with the public.

Shun-Yan Toto To said: “There were carers who had brought their loved one with dementia to learn about research studies they might be able to take part in. Some of the carers shared that they were not sure about whether their loved one would like to participate but would like to try discussing the opportunity with them.

“I noticed that quite a lot of people mentioned they had heard of research previously but did not have very good understanding of what dementia studies would involve. Therefore, it was a good opportunity to explain how our studies work to an already interested group.”

The event was hosted by Dementia Oxfordshire, a service provided by Age UK Oxfordshire which provides information, advice and support to people living with dementia and their carers.

Shun-Yan Toto To continues: “The event overall was pretty well-organised and inspiring. It’s good to see there’s a platform for people from the local areas to explore different aspects of information about dementia.”
